Then be it the De Monte Colony or the cursed broken bridge; in this list, you will get the most haunted places in Chennai. But considering these spooky places of Madras as ordinary ones will be a mistake. If you are a ghost hunter these places will be a treat for you, but if you are a faint-hearted person then we strictly recommend that you should stay away from these places as soon as the day crashes.

What might look like an ordinary place to you during the day; turns into a nightmare as it starts to get dark. People screaming, shocking sightings, and gloomy energies are going to be common and prevailing things in these places. So if you somehow, you make any plans to visit any of these “ghostly attractions of Chennai” then be prepared for anything and everything.

Haunted spots of Chennai that weak hearted should stay away from after dark

    1. De Monte Colony

De Monte Colony a haunted place in Chennai

Location: Demonte Colony, Off St. Mary’s Road, Abiramapuram, Chennai

De Monte Colony is one of the spookiest places in Madras and also in India. It is a place that will bring chills to even the ghost hunters during the day. If you talk to the locals to know about its past; they will strictly ask you to stay away from here at all costs.

    Something about this place

Okay so if you are too interested about De Monte Colony, let us tell you that it was once a prosperous colony established by Portuguese businessman De Monte; hence the name. There is a sad story about this place where this man had a mentally ill wife and an only son who died, for reasons unknown. This place feels not only negative but there is a different kind of sadness around (as described by many ghost hunters and experts.)

    Spooky Occurrences at this place

The entire colony is said to be haunted and there have been a lot of unnatural occurrences here. People who visit here after evening are never found again. There have been a lot of lost and missing cases registered from this colony. Trespassers; be it animals or humans mysteriously vanishes from around the place and are never to be found again. If this wasn’t enough, people have registered spooky activities like doors banging, locks unlocking, and screams from this place- even in broad daylight.

    2. Besant Avenue Road

Besant avenue road a haunted place in Chennai

Location: Besant Avenue Road, Arunachalapuram, Adyar

It feels like all the cities in India have a patch of road which is haunted. One of the scary places of Chennai- Besant Avenue Road is quite an amazing example of this.

    Something about this place

Besant Avenue Road is a busy street which can be quite deceptive because this is counted amongst the haunted roads of India. A lot of people also say that this road is cursed and there have been a lot of accidents registered. The road on the other hand is quite amazing with greenery on both sides and a peaceful ambiance unless you know what happens here after the evening.

    Spooky Occurrences at this place

Besant Avenue Road is not just a spooky place of Chennai but weird too. The ghostly figure that has been spotted multiple times around an uprooted tree here has a creepy sense of humour. Although there is a house, a school, a temple, and an animal shelter- all of this is negated by the ghost of the road. The ghostly figure has been spotted here in broad daylight by many passers. The spooky occurrences here include creepy laughter, being slapped hard by someone in thin air, and at times being flung off the vehicles (this includes even children). And after any of these activities- there comes loud and creepy laughter. The locals also use this lane at their own risk- even if they are commuting in the daytime.

    3. Blue Crossroad

Blue Crossroad a haunted place in Chennai

Location: 4th Avenue Link Road, Sai Ram Colony, Besant Nagar, Chennai

After Besant Avenues, it is time to explore the infamous Besant Nagar; do you have the same plan? We say, you should try something else. Blue Crossroad, is another haunted place of Chennai. It is well-known as the suicide spot of Chennai. And it is a literal-to-its-name place! Blue Crossroad happens and is believed to be cursed which is why people end their lives here.

    Something about this place

Although you will see dense canopies on both sides of the road, it feels negative and scary to use the road even during the daytime. One of the creepiest things about this place is; that for an entire stretch on this road, you will not see light hitting the ground. It is hard to believe that this place was similar through centuries but now it feels and is a haunted place in Chennai.

    Spooky Occurrences at this place

Blue Crossroad is one of the deadliest places in Chennai where people have ended their lives. No one knows why and how this happens- but one thing that everyone knows is that this place is cursed. There is also a belief amongst the locals that one should refrain from using this road but if you are- drive as fast as you can to cross the road as quickly as you can. There have been sightings of floating white apparitions, screams of people from the bushes, and much more. But whatever happens, look straight and don’t stop at any cost. Because if you do, it is game over for you!

    4. Anna Flyover

Anna Flyover a haunted place in Chennai

Location: Dr. Radha Krishnan Salai, Rangaiah Garden, Mylapore, Chennai

Okay, did we say Blue Crossroad as the only suicide point of Chennai? Then we will take our words back! That’s because Anna Flyover is another such place where many unhappy souls have taken their lives. Even the police of this place get regular suicide alerts from around this place. Now, how much of this is true, we can’t tell that!

    Something about this place

Anna Flyover is amongst the most haunted places in Tamil Nadu and not just in Chennai. This place has a very dark history if you were to believe the locals. A lot of people have ended their lives here and it is believed (based on the tales that people talk about) that all the people who have committed suicide here were unhappy due to some reason.

    Spooky Occurrences at this place

The spooky events that are registered from here are also too many. From people killing themselves to having jitters while passing by- there are multiple things that people have reported about the place. Some passers also feel cold on a particular stretch of the flyover even during a hot day. Echoing sounds of people crying, laughing, and pleading for help and forgiveness can be heard at times. With so many unhappy souls dying here, a flyover is a perfect place of paranormal activities.

    5. Broken Bridge

Broken Bridge a haunted place in Chennai

    Location: Theosophical Society, Adyar, Chennai

That’s the name given to the bridge which was built in 1967 and collapsed in 1977 due to a strong tidal wave. When constructed, the bridge stretched between Elliot’s Beach and Santhome Beach. But today, it is half broken.

    Something about this place

The broken bridge was a commuting passage for the passers as well as fishermen. It was constructed to provide ease to both of them day and night. But after the bridge was broken by a tide, the place from which it broke has turned into a haunted spot in Chennai.

    Spooky Occurrences at this place

It is said that when the bridge broke, fishermen found a few dead bodies of women. They were suspected to have been murdered but none of them were identified because they didn’t have any ID on them. And since then this place has become a haunted spot of Chennai. Where the bridge gets closed to the public during the day, fishermen who row their boats around early in the morning have seen white apparitions, screams of women, and white cloth-wearing women walking around the bridge. This has shocked and scared the fishermen and people who dare to come here during the dark hours.

    Conclusion

The list of scary places in Chennai are innumerable but the ones we have mentioned are quite daunting in terms of haunting. Even if you are a strong-hearted person; these places have the ability to give you more than goosebumps. From colonies to houses, restaurants, to malls; spooky places in Chennai have no end. And we strongly believe that if you don’t understand the ghost language; you should stay away from these places.
