India’s diversity is not only based on the number of different landscapes that are present here but in multiple other places as well. Be it food, culture, or attire; one can always enjoy the diverse nature offered in different cities of India. And in this blog, we are going to discuss about the state that’s known for its attire. Not just in India but across the globe, and that’s not an exaggeration. If you haven’t seen or tried their diversity, we suggest, read this blog and go shopping.

Maybe the traditional dresses of Gujarat that we have mentioned below would give your wardrobe diversity too. So check out the amazing list that we have created for you.

Get a Gujarati Dress amongst these for a wardrobe makeover

    1. Chorno- A bottom wear for men

If you look for a Gujarati dress in the market, this would be one of the most popular and colourful bottom wear that you could find. Not that there are none others but people often buy this because of its beautiful handwork and comfort. Chorno is a dhoti or more like a stitched dhoti that is worn by men.

It is designed elegantly and for sheer comfort. It is worn by men on many occasions including the most popular event or festival named Dandiya Night. This attire is extremely loose and comfortable with a string (Naada) or elastic to hold it around your waist.

    2. Dhoti- The most common bottom wear for men

Chorn looks like a dhoti but is more than that. But this one is what you see in many different places. Although, many versions of Gujarati Dhotis also are modernised and have elastic and other things. But the traditional attire is the one that you see people wearing in white or are tied in an authentic way. Dhoti is still one of the most common bottom wear for men in the different parts of our county.

It is a part of many cultures and has been intact till date. Not just that, in many parts of our country, this attire is worn by ladies as well. And that has now become a trend too. Young girls wearing stitched dhotis with tops(Stitched Dhotis which are also used as yoga dhotis.)

    3. Phento- Elegant headgear for men

Phento is a headgear which is pretty and colourful. It has been in Gujarati culture for a long time now. This is made by a long cloth which is firstly rolled and then tied around the head. Some say that Phento is derived from the headgear worn in Rajasthan’s different areas.

Phento in today’s time is very rare to be seen in Gujarat but if you want to still have a look; proceed to the village areas. There you will see authentic clothes at their best and people wearing Phento.

    4. Gujarati Sarees- The ultimate attire for women

Just like dhoti for men, Saree is the ultimate attire for ladies. We believe you are already aware of this dress and the difference here is negligible. Because with time, the way of wearing saree has normalised and become one. You can still visit the village parts of Gujarat and check the difference. One thing that you will see as a difference here is that the second end of the saree which is taken as pallu, is brought and pinned in the front.

That’s how the Gujaratis have been wearing it since ages. And it looks pretty! So, if you buy a saree and wish to wear it like Gujaratis then this is how you should do it.

    5. Chaniyo- The prettiest mirror work attire

It is hard to describe the beauty of a Chaniyo which is bottom wear for women. It is also known as lehengas but is so much more than that. You get to multiple designs and styles here. But the best amongst all is the one that comes with mirror work. Most of these styles are worn on occasions or festivals here. Nevertheless, you can wear this one on multiple occasions.

And in different parts of the country; it is being worn by girls and ladies. So, if you are too skeptical about buying something very different. It is better you go for this attire and pair it with a choli and dupatta.

    6. Choli- The embroidered blouse

Yes, it is nothing but the blouse-like costume that women wear over lehengas and similar dresses. Choli in Gujarat is a very popular and loved costume because it can be used in multiple places. Not only does it look ravishing but easy and comfortable to wear and carry.

Even in today’s time, you can spot multiple women wearing this if there is an event or celebration around. And in Gujarat, Cholis are mostly made with beautiful embroideries and mirrorwork.

    7. Ghagra Choli- A complete costume of Gujarat

This is another complete costume from Gujarati women; which is now popular and worn in many parts of the country. Ghagra Choli is the attire where women wear loose bottom wear that has handwork and mirror work to say the least. Ghagra is more or less a style of lehengas which is more comfortable and convenient to carry.

And a choli is what we have discussed already in the above point. Pairing both these together is a common sight. And you will see that in fairs and festivals. Women love flaunting their toned body wearing such dresses and they surely look amazing and pretty.

    8. Kediyu- The garment on the top for men

Kediyu is like a traditional attire that Gujarati men wear over Chrono or we can say that they are paired together. It is the frock-like upper wear that you might have seen men of Gujarat wearing on multiple occasions. It is a very popular and simply elegant attire that can’t be skipped in a list of traditional dresses of Gujarat.

    9. Kurta

This is a dress that’s worn on the torso and people can wear it in their day-to-day life as well. It is a very popular and commonly worn and seen dress. But the ones that are worn in Gujarat are still preferred to be made of cotton and nothing else. Although across the country you will see a lot of different types of fabric being used for its production. Also, the traditional kurta of Gujarat has always been colorful.

    Conclusion

Now, what do you think about these clothes? Be it the women’s or men’s attire, try and enjoy the overall look of the dress. Not to forget that it will diversify your dressing sense and wardrobe completely. These traditional dresses were initially just popular in different parts of Gujarat. But later on, people acquired the taste of some of those dresses. And if you wish to make your wardrobe a bit more versatile, we would suggest that you can pick and try any of these dresses.
