It will come out as an element of surprise but there are many haunted places in Mumbai that are named as some of the best visited places. A lot of people spend quality time here with their travel partners. It won’t be wrong to say that these haunted places have always given a reason to the adventurous souls to visit Mumbai.

    1. Sanjay Gandhi National Park

    Location Western Express Hwy, Borivali East, Mumbai, Maharashtra
    Entry Fee Adults- 65 INR

    Children below 5 years- 25 INR

    For visiting Kanheri Caves- 5 INR (Extra)

    Sanjay Gandhi National Park is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Mumbai. The entire park is spread over approximately 104 acres making it one of the largest in the country. But the place that’s known for lurking wild animals has an infamous story as well. One might find it difficult to believe that the park is haunted.

    What is the story?

    Although there are no true stories about what happened here. And you won’t find it at many places on the internet as well. But if you dig deeper or talk to some locals, they will tell you the story. The truthfulness of their stories remains a question but the fact that this park is haunted can’t be denied.

    The locals have different stories but one of the most prominent of all is that once a lady who was very beautiful was dragged to the deep forest and raped. She was killed by the men who raped her and ever since she is haunting the deepest sections of the park.

    What is spooky here?

    It has been confirmed by the guards as well as the locals around the park that whenever a person tries to reach the deepest parts of the forest, the woman kills them. Also, there have been sightings of a woman dressed in white saree who asks for lift and those who don’t stop, she chases them. Now it is a hoax or a true story, we will leave that on you to decide. Also it is said that the spookiest place in the entire park is Kanheri Caves which is one of the 109 caves in the park.

    2. Mukesh Mill

    Location: Diwakar Building, Narayan A Sawant Rd, Azad Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra

    There isn’t a list of horror places in Mumbai that does not count Mukesh Hill at the top spots. And that’s because it seems to be a spooky place only by the looks of it. There have been many Bollywood and other theatre projects that have been executed here but they haven’t been satisfactorily shot.

    What is the story?

    The incident that took place at the mill in 1871 made this place deserted and spooky. Mukesh Mill was one of the top-notch mills in Mumbai but in this year it faces a mishap where the entire mill caught fire. Though most people were rescued, there were some who got stuck and they were burnt alive. And ever since, neither this place has thrived, nor any projects were completed, nor did anyone reconstruct anything. The place has been haunted ever since.

    What is spooky here?

    All the visitors, explorers, and Bollywood stars; whosoever visited here always experienced a negative energy around them. The shoots resulted in early pack ups and explorers felt someone behind them all the time. People have also sighted shadows, unearthly activities, and much more. It is also said that once an actress was possessed by a ghost who warned the crew members to leave the place or else they won’t live to see another day. This shocked the entire team and they vacated the place.

    3. D’Souza Chawl

    Location: Kalina Kurla Rd, Kolivery Village, Santacruz East

    This is known to be another haunted place in Mumbai and one where the ghost is harmless. At least that’s what people say. But when you get the sight of an apparition out of nowhere, it surely makes the heart skip a beat. Although, this place is amongst the haunted ones in Mumbai but no harm has been registered by the locals ever since.

    What is the story?

    Now, according to the story of the chawl; locals say that there was a woman who slipped and fell in the well. This well has no boundaries and is made in the very center of the chawls. She came to the well for water at night and while pulling up the bucket, she fell inside. She screamed for help but at the time of this mishap, no one was there. She eventually drowned and died in the well. Ever since the chawls are haunted by her presence.

    What is spooky here?

    The sighting of that lady in white saree has been confirmed by the people who still live there. They have seen her multiple times but only to get their heart a sudden spike. This haunted place is not harmful (yet) so the people have named this place as a friendly ghost place of Mumbai.

    4. Vrindavan Society

    Location: Thane, Mumbai, Maharashtra

    When it comes to ghostly encounters, Mumbai is filled with many such places. The city that never sleeps has places with a dark past. Not only parks, houses, lanes, but even societies. One such example that’s in front of you is the Vrindavan Society.

    What is the story?

    There is a story amongst the locals that once a man hanged himself to death in one of the flats of the society. Some people say that he was killed by robbers who looted his house. So there are a few different things that people say. But the dead old man is a common thing in all the stories.

    What is spooky here?

    People also believe that the night he was murdered, the guards were not doing their job. So from then till date, he comes at night and slaps the guards who sleep or are engaged in other activities compromising on their duty.

    5. Aarey Milk Colony

    Location: Goregaon, Mumbai, Maharashtra

    Having spoken about creepy places in Mumbai, we can’t ignore Aarey Milk Colony which is located in Goregaon region of Mumbai. There are different stories that have caught the attention of people living in Mumbai because this colony is situated at a place that boasts its natural beauty.

    What is the story?

    People say that there were killings done in this region in the past. Some say that this forested place is a very common area for black magic (which is said to be practised even today) and so on. What’s right and what’s not is still a big question that has to be answered.

    What is spooky here?

    There are multiple things that have been confirmed by people. Actually, the colony falls in the path which is a shortcut to Powai. People usually take a shortcut from here to save time and avoid traffic. But those who took this route during the night have heard children crying and a woman asking for help and lift. But whenever someone stopped, she quickly vanished giving a devil’s laughter that echoed in the environment. Creepy enough? Or do you still dare to take a shortcut?
